One of Bika's most used features is its LiveSearch facility inherited from the underlying Plone CMS - a Google like search engine from where data can be found without having to fill out laborious query forms. Search results correspond to the user's LIMS authorisation profile and, for example, clients still see only their own data. More LIMS specific search features have been added

LiveSearch

Plone's LiveSearch increases the value of Bika's search engine by simplifying the search process. Results from a search are instantly available. As the user types letters for a search, possible matches appear below the search box - without changing the current page:

Every item in the list is a live link - click on them to navigate to them if it matches the item you were looking for. Or narrow the list down by entering more characters

So, instead of entering a search term, waiting for results, and refining your search, this live feedback on searching makes finding things faster and more effective

Spotlight Search

Holding down the [Ctrl] key and pressing the space bar on the keyboard, anywhere in the system, it brings up a search field centre screen where search terms can be typed in

The field behaves just like the LiveSearch function, shortlists all matching items in the DB, configuration or transactional, that are hyperlinked for easy navigation

Search in lists

Search fields are also available to quickly find items on Bika lists.

Enter search parameters in the the search field, hit enter or click the search icon to restrict the items displayed to those you are interested in

Note that more than one search term, separated by spaces, can be entered and the search function will include them all

Dates can be entered in any acceptable format but if the month is written out or abbreviated, English should be used

Two dates separated by a colon ':' will treat the search string as a date range and find all data between the two dates
