Migrating the LIMS Configuration

If an existing LIMS' configuration is needed on another server, e.g. migrating from a Test server to Production, the LIMS configuration can be exported and then imported on a similar LIMS version on another server

Exporting the LIMS configuration

Navigate as admin user to the LIMS' Management Interface (ZMI) and down to the portal_setup folder. Click on the Export tab

Select SENAITE: Export Content Structure/Export LIMS Content Structure and click Export selected steps at the bottom of the page

A date stamped .tar.tgz file will be put in you local download folder, don't touch the file but keep it ready to be imported

Importing a LIMS configuration

Language

The importing site should have en-gb language. Add the language to the new site before importing. In Site setup -> Language, on the General tab, select the missing language and add it to the Available ones

Navigate as admin user to the LIMS' Management Interface (ZMI) and down to the portal_setup folder. Click on the Tarball Import tab

Browse for and select the tarball (tar.gz) exported earlier from its location on your computer or network, and click Import uploaded tarball

The LIMS will respond by asking you for a name for the installation and the proceed to import the tarball

Post import actions

These setting are not migrated

Install the addons you installed on the originating site, typically bika.coa, bika.ui, bika.extras, senaite.instruments etc.
Brand the site with your logo, favicon and title

Set the Sample attributes to be captured on the Sample Registration form

Set the Sample attributes to be displayed on the Sample View form
Set up Impress with your selection of COA templates
Set the site's 'From' address, else email notification and password resets will not work.
Send password requests as site admin to users
