Post import Configuration

Even the best import sheets do not get to all the corners in the system

Installation and Configuration

At this point we assume you install a Senaite site and uploaded the Setup data spreadsheets successfully

You'll already be able to process Samples but are likely to come across gaps that lab manager users continue to plug. We describe the more common follow ups to the spread sheet import here, recommended to do before starting to use the system

Install add-on products

A wide variety of add-on Bika and Senaite modules are available as 'Add-ons' to complement the standard installation

Popular ones are

  • senaite.instruments - Various instrument interfaces
  • senaite.storage - Sample storage module
  • bika.ui - restores the classic multicolour Bika icon set
  • bika.coa -A number of variations on the standard COA Templates
  • bika.extras - Handy tweaks not in core and other customisations staged here before merging with core
  • senaite.crms - Enables alert for soon to expire Reference Samples
  • senaite.patient - and various microbiology add-ons for health care labs.

Configure a mail host or a site 'From' address, for emails to work. Localhost, port 25 and valid email address, utf-8 character set

Site 'From' Address

Brand your LIMS

Configure the LIMS to use the lab's own logo, favicon and site title, in the UI and COAs

Core Setup items per tab

In the very first setup item, SETUP, top left of the LIMS setup page, a number of tabs need to be reviewed as it effects the way the lab works

These are the important tabs:

Security

Consider these alternatives:

Allow access to worksheets only to assigned analysts.

Disable submission of results by analysts for one another

Allow only lab managers to create and manage worksheets

Accounting

Disable Pricing information if you are an inhouse lab and don't need to display or use prices for testing

Analyses

Categorise analysis services - to group analysis services by category in the LIMS views and COA

Enable Automatic verification of samples. This sees samples automatically verified as soon as all results are individually verified.

Allow self-verification of results in labs where ISO 17025 workflow does not have to be followed, or emergencies when a Verifier is not available

Sampling

If your lab does sampling too and you want the Sampler and DateTime recorded in a workflow step, enable Sampling

Auto-receive samples. In labs where all samples are registered at reception, enable this option for samples to start their workflow in Received state and skip the To Be Sampled and Due states for a quicker progression

Set the Reference Sample Expiry Warning, the number of days before expiry an alert will be raised

ID Server

Labs have different Sample Identification conventions and these can be configured on the Setup's ID Server tab

Common practice is to add the year, {year} to Sample IDs

Configure the Sample Registration form

Decide which of then many available Sample attributes you want to use, and select only them on the Manage Form Fields screen. Order them in a logic sequence

COA Templates

Select the templates to be made available, default template and page format
