Secondary Testing of Samples
Non perishable samples, like ores, or frozen ones like blood, can long after the initial testing be reanalysed, for different analytes
Reanalysis of Samples
Stored Samples are often taken out and analysed again, for different Analytes maybe, e.g. in bioinformatics where a sample is cryogenic storage may be anlysed after years for gene snippets overlooked or with new technology not previously available
Bika Historically
Traditionally earlier versions of Bika made use of separate Sample and Analysis Request objects which allowed multiple Analysis Requests, ARs, on a specific Samples
With the code migration to Senaite, these classes were consolidated into the Sample objects to simplify the code
Also ost labs refer to Samples on the lab floor and resit 'Analysis Requests'
Where labs make uses or reanalysis, the first AR & Sample is called a Primary Sample, and this field must be enabled for it to be displayed on the Sample registration form
Enable Primary Samples
Navigate to the Manage Sample Form page and enable Primary Sample, press Save
Select the Sample
Next on the Sample registration form the user is able to select an earlier Sample for reanalysis
A new Sample record is created, NB with an ID of the primary Sample and an added postfix -S01 for the first secondary analysis of the sample. E.g. Primary Sample BLD22-001's second reanalysis witl hav an ID of BLD22-001-S02, the third -S03 etc.
