Sample Point Locations. From Water Testing to Shrimp Ponds

Further to earlier posts on ‘What keeps LIMS Implementers busy’, we are playing with Sample Point Locations at the moment. The hierarchical feature in Bika LIMS organizes sampling sites into two tiers for greater clarity and efficiency

Users first define a Sample Point Location such as a building complex, industrial plant, then nest individual Sample Points within it, e.g. specific taps, boreholes, or in a tribology use case, lubrication points on a yellow machine

This structure replaces flat Sample Points under each client, allowing laboratories - say those doing environmental testing, food safety or industrial monitoring, to group related collection points logically. The add-on also allows assigning a designated location manager

When a Sample Point Location is selected in Sample registration, the system restricts the Sample Point dropdown to only those belonging to that location. The location manager’s email is copied into the CC field so they receive the COA too

Sample Batches are typically made up of Samples from the same location and the COA essentially a Batch report

Enter Aquaculture and shrimp health testing - in Case investigations, sampling from a number of ponds per location - it fits the model perfectly with in essence only translations necessary. Ok and some new Sample attributes, animal species, age and gender

From water quality monitoring to tribology on heavy machinery and now shrimp health investigations across multiple ponds, Sample Point Locations continue to demonstrate the same flexibility that runs through the rest of Bika LIMS.
